Welcome to ‘The Acchord Voices’, we are a modern, highly sociable, community choir aiming to provide its members with a supportive, exciting, occasionally challenging (but always fun!) weekly singing experience.
There is absolutely no requirement to have a singing background or be able to read music (no auditions!) as we will cover many of the technical aspects as we go along. There is also no obligation to perform in public if all you want is a weekly sing with a like-minded crowd. Our repertoire is likely to be as diverse as you will find anywhere, from classical motets and madrigals through to modern rock and pop, gospel and show tunes. We are based in Crowborough, East Sussex and will be performing around the area at Christmas, raising money for local charities. And there will be a summer concert to show off all our hard work!
Hi, I’m Jon – I’m the leader of ‘The Acchord Voices’, although my day job is deputy head teacher at a primary school in Newhaven. My choral journey began at the age of nine when I was enlisted into the local church choir. As a sixth former, I sang in the school chamber choir, and at university, where I read music and studied the French Horn, I joined the college madrigal choir, performing in Holland, Belgium and much of the UK. After university, I spent several years playing guitar, bass and keyboard in bands and pit orchestras for amateur shows, as well as performing onstage. A decade ago, I was asked to lead the Crowborough branch of a large Sussex-based choir network, and my passion for singing and conducting was reignited. I now find myself in the position of leading my own choir, and I couldn’t be more excited!
We meet every Wednesday in term time downstairs in Room 1 at the Crowborough Community Centre, from 7.30pm until 9.00pm.
Each session costs £5.00 per singer, and you can pay cash or by bank transfer (details on request). You are not expected to attend every single session and you will not be charged for any sessions you miss. The music is emailed out via newsletter each week, and individual vocal parts will be available to download through a file share link. There is disabled parking at the centre and easy wheelchair access to the room if required.
The room we sing in is fully ventilated, and we do ask that if you are displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, you take a lateral flow test prior to the session.
